So, if you’re planning to drive The Road to Hana for the first time in Maui, I highly recommend making a day out of it. Since the road is a 52-mile stretch of highway, you’ll also come across some winding and narrowing one lane sections as a result. Therefore, please drive safely.

Ho’okipa Beach Park (best stops on the road to hana)

Located near Mile Marker 9, Ho’okipa Beach Park is one of the best stops on The Road to Hana. In fact, if you head East on the Hana Highway, you’ll find Ho’okipa Beach Park nestled between the town of Paia and the Haiku Town Center.

In addition, Ho’okipa Beach Park is one of the best places to watch the sunset in Maui. In fact, worldwide, the beach is also known for being the most popular place for water sports. These water sports include but are not limited to surfing, windsurfing, kiteboarding, paddling, and etc.

So, if you’re planning to stop by Ho’okipa Beach Park for the first time on The Road to Hana, I highly recommend it.

The beach park offers cool aloha vibes and you’ll find many places where you can chill out underneath the glorious sun.

Twin Falls (best stops on the road to hana)

Located near Mile Marker 2, the Twin Falls is another great stop on The Road to Hana! In fact, it’s home to the first accessible waterfalls along The Road to Hana since 1997.

In addition, before you head to the waterfall, be sure to stop by the Twin Falls Farm to grab some freshly squeezed sugarcane juice, coconut candy, and locally grown fruit. This will help keep you motivated during your waterfall hike as you follow the trail to the Upper Falls or the Lower Falls.

On another note, parking at the Twin Falls is not free. Please be sure to bring $10 to cover the parking fee. The money overall helps pay for the farm’s expenses so that visitors can still visit the Twin Falls for many years to come.

So, if you’re planning to stop by the Twin Falls for the first time on The Road to Hana, I highly recommend it. Even though paid parking is available, it’s on a first come, first served basis.

Wai’anapanapa State Park (best stops on the road to hana)

Located at Mile Marker 32, Wai’anapanapa State Park is another great stop on The Road to Hana! It offers a little something for everyone such as a black sand beach, a blowhole, sea arches, lava tubes, hiking & walking trails and panoramic views.

In fact, most people stop by Wai’anapanapa State Park just to snap a few photos, but I highly recommend against this. You need to take your time at this stop so that you can explore the park to its fullest.

Seriously…

Don’t be afraid to dip your toes in the black pebbly sand or jump into the ocean! You only live once so you need to make the most of it.

So, if you’re planning to stop by Wai’anapanapa State Park for the first time on The Road to Hana, I highly recommend it. Reservations are required at this state park so be sure to plan ahead!

Wailua Falls (best stops on the road to hana)

Located at Mile Marker 45, Wailua Falls is another great stop on the Road to Hana! Known as the most photographed waterfall in Maui, Wailua Falls cascades at 80 ft. It is located near the ‘Ohe’o Gulch and its truly a rewarding experience.

In fact, the best time to see the falls is usually in the morning. This is due to the way the sun shines over it.

So, if you’re planning to stop by Wailua Falls for the first time on The Road to Hana, I highly recommend it.

Sturdy shoes are commonly worn to the waterfall to prepare for the slippery hike. However, if you don’t have any water shoes, be sure to purchase some from WateLves.

These shoes will protect your feet on the hike and they dry up really fast!

The King’s Gardens (best stops on the road to hana)

The King’s Gardens is another great stop on The Road to Hana! It’s a beautiful, wild, tropical estate where you can do a waterfall hike and a chocolate tour. In fact, on the chocolate tour, you’ll get to see how cacao seeds from the garden transform into a delightful treat all over the world. In addition, their chocolate tour only showcases organic gourmet chocolate to make it worth your while.

So, if you’re planning to stop by The King’s Gardens for the first time on The Road to Hana, I highly recommend it. As a sacred Hawaiian heritage site, The King’s Gardens will also give you the opportunity to explore the ancient cave and water tunnel of the mythological Hawaiian lizard god Mo’o Kana.

In addition, you’ll also be able to walk into an epic rainforest with trees towering overhead.

Garden of Eden Arboretum (best stops on the road to hana)

Located at Mile Marker 10, the Garden of Eden Arboretum is another great stop on The Road to Hana! It was created by Alan Bradbury, an arborist, who became the first ISA certified arborist in Maui.

Due to his impact, the grounds at the Garden of Eden are well-maintained and they have been recognized by the State of Hawaii for its conservation practices and land use management. In fact, the grounds also feature 700 herbaceous species in the garden. Some of these species were even donated by George Harrison who was a member of the Beatles.

So, if you’re planning to stop by the Garden of Eden Arboretum for the first time on The Road to Hana, I highly recommend it. The Garden of Eden even offers a waterfall view of the Puohokamoa Falls and an art gallery full of locally made gifts and Maui souvenirs.

Upper Waikani Falls (best stops on the road to hana)

Located near Mile Marker 19, Upper Waikani Falls is another great stop on The Road to Hana! It’s often referred to as the Three Bears since it has three but separate waterfalls parallel to each other, differing in length. In fact, the third and smallest waterfall in the video is known as the “baby bear”.

In addition, at the base of the pool beneath Upper Waikani Falls, you’ll notice a great number of small and large boulders. These boulders are the perfect place to stash your stuff as you swim and they’re also an ideal spot for sunbathing. So, if you’re planning to stop by Upper Waikani Falls for the first time on the Road to Hana, I highly recommend it.

It’s one of the most popular waterfalls on the Hawaiian Islands and it’s a great waterfall hike!
