Dating Apps in Germany for A Level Speakers
Here are some dating apps in Germany I’d recommend if you speak German at an A Level! Some of these apps in fact are quite common in my host country so they’re bound to have great customer service in English. In addition, if you’re feeling self-conscious about your German, you can also speak to Germans in English as well.
Tinder (dating apps in germany)
Known as a hookup app in America, Tinder is very popular here in Germany. In fact, when I studied abroad 5 years ago in Rome, I actually used it in Berlin to meet some of the locals. However, during that time, Tinder in Germany wasn’t exactly used for hookups. The guys I met on there were very nice and respectful but since it was just 5 years ago a lot could have changed.
So, if you’re new to Tinder, there are a few things you should know. You have to swipe left or right on a bunch of people in the app in order to find your match. A left swipe means you don’t like the person’s profile and a right swipe means you do. If both you and the person you swiped right on both swipe right then it’s a match made in Tinder. From there on, you can start messaging this person in the hopes that you both decide to meet.
Bumble (dating apps in germany)
Known as a popular dating app in America, Bumble is also very popular here in Germany. In fact, I used it a couple of times in America while I was still there but it was more for the BFF feature. That feature actually allows you to find friendship matches anywhere you are in the world so it could be of use to you in your Au pair journey too.
However, if you’re new to Bumble though like Tinder you must swipe left or right on a bunch of people in the app in order to find your match. So if both you and the person you like swipe right on each other then it’s a match made in Bumble. The only thing that’s important to note about this app is that for heterosexual relationships only the female can send the first message. So, if you’re a woman who wants to take charge of who is worthy of speaking to you, I highly recommend this app.
Candidate (dating apps in germany)
Based in Austria, Candidate is a dating app that’s also very popular in Germany! The app is more focused on the principle of matching with someone based on their personality so its format is very different from other apps.
The whole premise of Candidate therefore is getting its users to “play games” together. Your potential matches will send you questions that you need to answer and you can also ask your questions as well. If you and a potential match both like each other’s answers than its a match made in Candidate. The only thing that’s important to note about this app is that you won’t be able to see your potential match’s face at all until you match. This helps put the focus away on looks so that you can focus on your potential match’s personality.
Lovoo (dating apps in germany)
Based in Dresden, Lovoo is another dating app that’s popular in Germany! It’s one of Tinder’s biggest competitors here in Deutschland and it also follows the same format. The only difference that seems to be apparent to me is the fact that you can send messages to potential people before you match and you can also view other people’s profiles in incognito mode too.
Video chatting, in addition, is also encouraged in the app. Lovoo actually has a Live feature that allows you to stream yourself in order to find a date. This, as a result, can kind of feel like speed dating except you’re doing it over video. These dates usually come from people who are viewing your live stream and they only have a short amount of time to impress you.
Once (dating apps in germany)
Based in Switzerland, Once is a dating app that’s intended for users who are specifically looking for serious relationships. Unlike Tinder or Bumble that use the swiping feature, Once only provides the user with one potential match at noon to let the user decide if the match is a “yes” or “no”. The user simply has 24 hours to make their decision and once it’s mutual on both sides, you and your match can start messaging to spark the connection.
Personally, I have not used this app myself but it sounds like a catch if you’re the type of Au pair who doesn’t have time to date. Since this app gives you one match a day, you’ll have the option to take your time to decide when your free time is limited during the day.
Badoo (dating apps in germany)
Similar to Tinder, Badoo is another dating app that’s popular in Germany! It uses the same swiping functionality like Tinder of course but it differs in the way it portrays potential matches to you. Badoo shows you users that are nearby and that share similar interests to you. These users, in fact, can even be people you’ve met in real life.
So, if you’re looking to meet people who you’ve seen in real life in your area, I highly recommend Badoo. Sometimes as an Au pair you may be curious to see if there are other people from your host country here in Germany so Badoo can be a great place to find that out for yourself.
Happn (dating apps in germany)
Based in France, Happn is another dating site that’s popular in Germany! Similar to Badoo it shows its users people they’ve crossed paths with during the day in order to foster a potential match.
In my opinion, I think the app follows a very hopeless romantic principle in the hopes that users are able to meet the cute guy they saw at the coffee shop the same day on the app when the chances of that happening can be slim to none. But who knows… If you’re the type of person who’s scared to approach people they like in person then this app may be for you.
Dating Apps in Germany for B Level Speakers
Here are some dating apps in Germany I’d recommend if you speak German at a B Level! Some of the apps in fact are very common in Germany exclusively so their customer service may also be in German too. However, with a B Level in German that shouldn’t be much of a problem for you. Since you’ll be able to speak to your potential matches exclusively in German, then these apps are a great way to put your skills to the test.
Parship (dating apps in germany)
Known as one of the most popular dating sites in Germany, Parship is known for advertising that someone falls in love on their site every 11 minutes! Founded in Hamburg, the site is specifically intended for young or old single professionals who are well-established in their career. You must take a personality test in order to sign up for the site and your score will be used to measure your compatibility with other matches.
Personally, as an Au pair in Germany, I’ve seen advertisements for Parship pretty much everywhere. They’ve gotten a lot of hype and popularity for a reason so it doesn’t hurt to check them out. In fact, my host mother (who’s a single mom) even used the site herself if that tells you anything.
LoveScout24 (dating apps in germany)
Based in Munich, LoveScout24 is a dating site that focuses on casual and serious relationships for its audience. To sign up, you must answer text-based yes or no multiple-choice questions to get started as well as write detailed information about yourself in paragraph form. Once that is complete, every profile is vetted by the staff on LoveScout24 to keep the site safe and secure for everyone.
In fact, most Americans will be surprised by the fact that LoveScout24 is actually owned by Match.com! They bought it around July 2014 so you can expect to have similar offerings to Match.com if you’re American. These options include but are not limited to granular search options where you can filter out people based on nationality, origin, or job specifications.
Finya (dating apps in germany)
Lastly, Finya is another dating site that’s popular in Germany! It’s exclusively financed by advertisements so everything on the site should be free. A personality test is required to sign up for the site like Parship so be sure to keep that in mind. In addition, since it is a free site, there can be a lot of downsides to it. For one thing, it may attract a lot of scammers and fake profiles due to its open availability so please do keep that in mind if you decide to sign up.
Overall, I really hope you enjoyed reading this post on the best 10 dating apps in Germany for Au Pairs! Please let me know in the comments down below which dating app you would like to use the most. I would love to hear from you! 🙂
