So, if you love taking photos as much as me, you’re in for an incredible experience. In this post, I’m about to give you the most instagrammable places you can visit in Oahu!
Oahu Bucket List Series
P.S. This is a post in my Oahu Bucket List series. Here is the complete series:
Food: The 10 Most Delicious and Satisfying Must Eats in Honolulu, Hawaii
Instagram: The 10 Most Instagrammable Places in Oahu
Hidden Gems: 8 Secret Things to Do in Oahu Hawaii
Dillingham Ranch (most instagrammable places in oahu)
Dillingham Ranch is one of the best photo spots you can visit in Oahu! In fact, according to a photographer, the reason for this is because of its essence. For example, the wildlife in the ranch is always abundant while you’re there and the greenery is always bright. Together, these two traits can make any photo beautiful with the right wildlife and greenery.
In fact, while you’re at the ranch, you can also use the verdant palm forest as a backdrop. Doing this will help you get a perfect shot with any phone, camera, or tablet.
In addition, this photo spot is also the perfect place for anyone who wants to go off the beaten path. The ranch itself already has so much to offer so you should definitely take advantage of it.
Lastly, to find this spot, make your way over to 68-540 Farrington Hwy, Waialua, HI 96791. The drive from Honolulu to there is about an hour.
Manoa Falls (most instagrammable places in oahu)
Manoa Falls is another great photo spot you can visit in Oahu! The hike there is about 1.7 miles long and it will take you to a beautiful 150-foot tall waterfall.
In fact, as I’m writing this, the trail is now open seven days a week from sunrise to sunset. Therefore, as a result, it is highly recommended to not start the hike anytime after 5:30pm. If you do this, the trail might close before you finish and that will leave you in quite the predicament.
In addition, the trail’s short distance also makes it suitable for different hikers who are beginners, intermediates or experts. So, if you’re planning on visiting this photo spot for the first time, I highly recommend it. The drive from Honolulu to there is about 20 minutes and you can start the trail at Mānoa Falls Trail, Na Ala Hele, Honolulu, HI 96822.
Kawela Bay Beach Park (most instagrammable places in oahu)
Kawela Bay Beach Park is another great photo spot you can visit in Oahu! This park has photogenic trees that were able to appear in many movies and TV shows like the Pirates of the Caribbean and Lost.
In fact, located in the park is a large Banyan tree that has an amazing expanse of multiple trucks and vines. If you can find it, feel free to take some photos by it. The tree will make you feel photogenic since its been used in major motion pictures and television shows.
In addition, many older Banyan trees have “prop roots” that eventually grow into trunks as large as the original. This alone is what allows the Banyans to live past several hundred years.
So, if you’re planning on visiting this photo spot for the first time, I highly recommend it. The drive from Honolulu to there is about an hour and you can enter the park from 57 Kamehameha Hwy, Kahuku, HI 96731.
Sideways Palm Trees (most instagrammable places in oahu)
The Sideways Palm Trees is another great photo spot you can visit in Oahu! People usually climb up the trees at their own risk to get an unforgettable shot.
In fact, according to Quora, one of the reasons why palm trees grow sideways is due to phototropism. This essentially means that palm trees tend to grow in the direction of the light in order to obtain energy and food.
In addition, sometimes a palm tree can grow sideways due to the effect of a storm. If the strong winds from the storm are beating down on the palm tree, it will cause the tree to bend rather than snap.
So, if you’re planning on visiting this photo spot for the first time, I highly recommend doing it with caution. Since these trees are so high off the ground, it can be really easy for someone to climb and fall.
In addition, the Sideways Palm Trees in Oahu are also a 48 minute drive from Honolulu. To locate them go to 54-70 Kamehameha Hwy, Hauula, HI 96717.
Kualoa Regional Park (most instagrammable places in oahu)
Kualoa Regional Park is another great photo spot you can visit in Oahu! You can get views of the Ko’olau Range in the photo as you stand in the midst of the greenery.
In fact, according to To Hawaii, “kualoa” in Hawaiian translates to “long ancestral background” in English. This translation is very fitting for the park since the area has a long line of interesting history. For example, back then, chiefs would bring their children to the Kualoa Regional Park in order for them to learn about their heritage and traditions.
So, if you’re planning on visiting this photo spot for the first time, I highly recommend going around sunrise or sunset. This is because the sunrise or sunset looks beautiful against the Ko’olau Range, giving you the opportunity to take great pictures.
In addition, the Kualoa Regional Park in Oahu is also a 36 minute drive from Honolulu. To locate it, go to 49-479 Kamehameha Hwy, Kaneohe, HI 96744.
Nu’uanu Pali Lookout (most instagrammable places in oahu)
Nu’uanu Pali Lookout is another great photo spot you can visit in Oahu! It offers panoramic views of the sheer Koolau cliffs and the lush Windward Coast.
In fact, as you drive up the Pali Highway, you’ll notice the city disappear as Hawaii’s tranquil beauty emerges through the landscape. For a better view, visit the mountain peaks that shroud the sky as well as the stone terrace that overlooks the landmarks. These landmarks include but are not limited to the Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden, Hawaii Pacific University, and the Kaneohe Marine Corps Base.
So, if you’re planning on visiting this photo spot for the first time, make sure you go to this address: Nu’uanu Pali Dr, Kaneohe, HI 96744. The drive there from Honolulu shouldn’t be too long since it averages around 13 minutes.
The Byodo-in Temple (most instagrammable places in oahu)
The Byodo-in Temple is another great photo spot you can visit in Oahu! Set in the mountains, this spot will transport you all the way to Japan.
In fact, according to Go Hawaii, The Byodo-in Temple is actually a replica of another Japanese temple called Byodoin Temple of Uji. Together, they are both similar in color, size and architecture.
Dedicated in 1968, The Byodo-in Temple is still being used a centennial commemoration for the first Japanese immigrants in Hawaii.
So, if you’re planning on visiting this photo spot for the first time, make sure you go to the right address: 47-200 Kahekili Hwy, Kaneohe, HI 96744. The drive there from Honolulu shouldn’t be too long since it averages around 30 minutes.
Stairway to Heaven (most instagrammable places in oahu)
The Stairway to Heaven is another great photo spot located in Oahu! Also known as the Haʻikū Ladder, it is a steep, steel step structure that provides pedestrians access to the former U.S. Navy communication facilities on the island.
In fact, according to Travel and Leisure, this stairway is known as one of the most instagrammed trails on the island even though it’s closed off to the public. As a result, Hawaii is in the process of removing the stairway due to illegal trespassing and injuries.
So, if you’re planning on visiting this stairway, I highly advise against it. There’s a $1000 fine for anyone caught trespassing, so it’s better to stay on the safe side.
However, there’s also the chance the stairway might not disappear completely. One filming location in particular, Kuoloa Ranch, has offered to take the stairway onto their property so that they can use it as a ticketed tourist attraction.
Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden (most instagrammable places in oahu)
The Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden is another great photo spot you can visit in Oahu!
As stated here, the garden is used as a place of peace for many people since the name “Hoʻomaluhia” means “to make a place of peace”. To find it, go to Oahu’s Windwardside in Kāneʻohe. Once there, you’ll notice all of the extremely enchanted jagged mountains hovering overhead. They are a part of the gardens surroundings as well as the large reservoir in the middle of the complex. So, if you’re planning on visiting this photo spot for the first time, I highly recommend it. It’s a great place to take pictures and vlog!
In addition, the Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden in Oahu is also about a 21 minute drive from Honolulu. The exact address is 45-680 Luluku Rd, Kaneohe, HI 96744 but I’m sure you won’t have trouble finding it at all.
Kaka’ako Downtown Murals (most instagrammable places in oahu)
The Kaka’ako Downtown Murals are other great photo spots you can visit in Oahu!
In fact, according to Jasmine Alley, you can find them everywhere in Downtown Honolulu especially one right by Laka Skin Care & Spa.
In addition, the Kaka’ako neighborhood in Oahu is also about a 21 minute walk from the Iolani Palace. To locate it, walk to 691 Auahi St, Honolulu, HI 96813 from the Iolani Palace. This will bring you right to the Kaka’ako neighborhood, where you can check out the new mural located at SALT at Our Kaka’ako.
Once there, the mural features a woman stringing together a plumeria lei with her two children. This alone represents the Hawaiian popular proverb that no task is to big when done together by all.
