Looking to do a day trip from Stuttgart but don’t know where to go? Check out this post for 8 day trips from Stuttgart most tourists forget.
As someone who has been living in Stuttgart for quite some time, I will say it’s a very overlooked city. It’s not as big as the major cities in Germany like Frankfurt, Berlin and Munich but yet, it still gives you that big city San Francisco vibe. In fact, as a travel hub, Stuttgart is also the perfect place to stay if you’re planning on doing some day trips nearby. I, myself, have done so many from my time here I figured it would be a huge disservice to not share them with you all.
So, if you’re planning on doing a day trip from Stuttgart and you don’t know where to go, you’ve come to the right place. This post alone highlights 8 day trips from Stuttgart most tourists forget so that you can get the best experience traveling from this Swabian metropolis.

Europa-Park
Europa Park is a great day trip from Stuttgart tourists forget! It’s a theme park located in the Baden-Wuerttemberg state and it’s known for being the third most-visited park in Europe. Tourists, of course, are more likely to forget this theme park while they’re in Stuttgart since it’s not as famous as Disneyland Paris for example.
I for one, did not hear about this park until I moved to Stuttgart so if you’re a tourist, knowing about this place is a huge advantage. The best times to visit the park are obviously Monday-Thursday because of the work week and the park is accessible by public transport, plane, and car.
So, if you’re planning to do a day trip from Stuttgart most tourists forget about, I highly recommend visiting Europa Park. Tickets for one day start from 61.50 euros for adults and they have a reduced rate for kids and people with disabilities.
Lake Constance
Lake Constance is another great day trip from Stuttgart tourists forget! Known as Bodensee in German, Lake Constance is a central European lake that borders Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. I for one had the chance to visit Lake Constance myself and it was really cool to see how easy it was to cross the border from Germany to Switzerland to see the lake. There wasn’t really any border control around the lake from what I saw so if you wanted to visit three countries while you’re there you can do that.
In addition, I also had the chance to visit the old town of Konstanz which is particularly the town the lake is named after in English. I personally thought the town was worth the visit due to the amount of photos I took.
So, if you’re looking for a day trip from Stuttgart most tourists forget about, I highly recommend Lake Constance. Most tourists forget about it since it’s not as famous as Lake Como in Italy so you’ll definitely be at an advantage if you go.
Karlsruhe
Karlsruhe is another great day trip from Stuttgart tourists forget! Nicknamed The Fan City, Karlsruhe gets its nickname from the Karlsruhe Palace which is a sight worth seeing. The palace itself was influenced by the Palace of Versailles in France and it looks like an actual fan from the very top.
I for one, had the opportunity to visit the Palace of Versailles when I was in France and I will say the two look very alike. Both gardens are geometrically aligned with the palaces, forming a work of art, in order to highlight the territorial ruler at that time’s glory.
So, if you’re planning to do a day trip from Stuttgart that most tourists forget about, I highly recommend Karlsruhe. Most tourists forget about it since it isn’t as charming as other nearby cities but I believe the Karlsruhe Palace makes up for it.
Nuremberg
Nuremberg is another great day trip from Stuttgart most tourists forget! The city itself is known for being Germany’s most vibrant museum of history since the city has reflected German history since the Middle Ages. In fact, to this day, the most popular sights one can visit in Nuremberg include but are not limited to the Imperial Castle, the Former Nazi Party Rally Grounds, and the Germanic National Museum.
The Imperial Castle in Nuremberg is known for being one of the most important imperial palaces of the Old Holy Roman Empire. The Former Nazi Party Rally Grounds is a place where the former Nazi Party rallied together in Germany. Lastly, the Germanic National Museum is a museum that offers its visitors a journey through 600,000 years of European art, culture, and history, providing insight into Europe’s cultural heritage.
So, if you’re planning on doing a day trip from Stuttgart that most tourists forget about, I highly recommend Nuremberg. Most tourists forget about it since it’s not exactly a huge city like Berlin or Munich but I believe its history makes up for it.
Strasbourg
Strasbourg is another great day trip from Stuttgart most tourists forget! The city itself, is actually based in France but from Stuttgart it’s not that far away. Nicknamed the Christmas capital of Europe, Strasbourg is also known for having the oldest Christmas market in France and all of Europe.
I for one had the opportunity to visit this city in person and I was quite impressed. Strasbourg really does go above and beyond for the Christmas season so it’s worth checking out.
Therefore, if you’re planning on doing a day trip from Stuttgart that most tourists forget about, I highly recommend visiting Strasbourg. Most tourists forget about it since it’s outside of Germany but you can easily use the Deutsche Bahn to visit the city.
Triberg
Triberg is another great day trip from Stuttgart most tourists forget! The city itself is famous for its cuckoo clocks and waterfalls so you’ll definitely have something to see and do. In fact, Triberg even has a worldwide reputation for having the largest cuckoo clock which is pretty unique for a city if you ask me.
So, if you’re planning on doing a day trip from Stuttgart that most tourists forget about, I highly recommend Triberg. Most tourists forget about Triberg since the city is very small but I believe having the world’s largest cuckoo clock makes up for it.
Schorndorf
Schorndorf is another great day trip from Stuttgart most tourists forget! The town itself was actually known as the richest town in the Baden-Wuerttemberg state in the 16th century after Stuttgart. It was even the birthplace of the famous inventor, Gottlieb Daimler, who invented the first high-speed, light petrol engine, making automotive history.
So, if you’re planning on doing a day trip from Stuttgart that most tourists forget about, I highly recommend Schorndorf. Most tourists forget about it because it’s a very small old town but I believe it being the birthplace of the famous inventor, Gottlieb Daimler, makes up for it.
Freiburg im Breisgau
Freiburg im Breisgau is another great day trip from Stuttgart most tourists forget. The city itself is situated in the heart of the major wine-growing Baden region and with Offenburg it is also an entry-point to the scenic Black Forest. In fact, the city is even known for its medieval minster and renaissance university as well as for having a very high standard for living.
So, if you’re planning on doing a day trip from Stuttgart that most tourists forget about, I highly recommend Freiburg im Breisgau. Most tourists forget about it since it’s labeled as a university city and it’s not as close to Stuttgart as Tuebingen is. However, I believe it being an entry point to the Black Forest makes up for it.
Overall, I really hope you enjoyed this post on the 8 day trips from Stuttgart tourists forget! Please let me know in the comments down below which day trip from Stuttgart intrigued you the most! I would love to hear from you. 🙂
