As someone who used to live in Frankfurt, this big German city has so many unforgettable things you can do! For one thing, Frankfurt offers a unique experience for its visitors due to its modern skyscrapers that blend in with its historic charm. In fact, from the center of the city, you can climb up the Main Tower, explore Römerberg Square, and marvel at the art in the Städel Museum.

So, if you’re looking to have an unforgettable experience in Frankfurt, Germany, you’ve come to the right place. This post alone highlights what you can do while you’re in Frankfurt and some frequently asked questions about the city.

Climb Up the Main Tower

Climbing the Main Tower is an unforgettable experience in Frankfurt, Germany! It’s one of Frankfurt’s top attractions and it’s the fourth tallest skyscraper in Germany. Many people also visit the tower for its views, art, and dining.

Regarding the views, the tower’s observation deck is 200 meters above the city. This offers many visitors panoramic views of Frankfurt and the surrounding area. Plus, it’s the perfect place to go if you want to take a selfie with the city.

Regarding the art, the Main Tower’s foyer features artwork by Stephan Huber and Bill Viola. Stephan Huber made a wall mosaic in the foyer while Bill Viola created a video installation. Together, the two works of art would make any art lover happy.

Lastly, the Main Tower has an upscale restaurant on the 53rd floor that offers views of the city. The restaurant, however, is quite small with table seating for 80 and lounge seating for 10. Therefore, I highly recommend making a reservation ahead of time.

Cruise the Main River

Taking a cruise on the Main River is another unforgettable experience in Frankfurt, Germany! It’s a great way to view the city’s skyline while also seeing sights like the pubs of Sachsenhausen and the European Central Bank. In fact, with a cruise, you can even jump off at Gerbermühle to learn more about the poet Goethe.

To get on a cruise, many boats depart from Eiserner Steg and leave every hour. You’ll even have the choice between going on a cruise for 50 minutes downstream or upstream or a 100-minute cruise that goes upstream or downstream. Plus, if you can’t decide whether to go downstream or upstream, you’re welcome to do both.

So, if you’re thinking about doing a cruise down the Main River, I highly recommend it. All the commentaries on the cruise speak German and English so you shouldn’t have to worry about any language barrier.

Shop at MyZeil

Shopping at MyZeil is another unforgettable experience in Frankfurt, Germany! The MyZeil is a shopping mall in Frankfurt, Germany and it’s known for its shopping, food, and entertainment.

Regarding shopping, the mall has over 52,000 square meters of retail space filled with a variety of stores. These stores are brand names in Germany and they include but are not limited to Bershka, Hollister, and Superdry. Plus, it’s nice to go to a German mall that has some international brands that are common in your home country.

Regarding the food, MyZeil has a food court on the top floor with dozens of restaurants in your selection. When I was there I was able to visit one of the two Chipotles in Germany which was such a highlight for me since I’m American. They even have other restaurants representing international food like Big Chef and Izu Asian Bistro.

Lastly, in regard to entertainment, there’s even a movie theater in the mall. My friend went there to watch the Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds that came out recently and she had a great experience. Plus, the theater even has waiter service for a luxurious atmosphere.

Tour the Frankfurt Stock Exchange

Touring the Frankfurt Stock Exchange is another unforgettable experience you can do in Frankfurt, Germany. Known as one of the world’s largest trading centers for securities, the Frankfurt Stock Exchange houses the famous trading floor and the Frankfurt Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

If you’re looking to book a tour, the hours of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange are from Mondays to Fridays from 9 until 17:30 Central European Time. Therefore, it’s best to book a time slot around then to see the trading happen in action.

I was actually fortunate enough to tour the Stock Exchange while I was still in Frankfurt and might I say I was very impressed. The tour was self-guided so you can go at your own pace and they break down a lot of stock market terminology for you. Plus, it’s nice to know that the whole experience is free of charge.

Join an Old Town Historic Walking Tour

Joining an Old Town historic walking tour is another unforgettable experience in Frankfurt, Germany! The Old Town in Frankfurt is locally known as Roemerberg Square and it’s known for its architecture and events.

Regarding the architecture, the square has half-timbered buildings with ornate gables that make the perfect Instagrammable pic. These buildings were reconstructed after World War II and it’s where the town hall is situated. Plus, if you’re a lover of history, the walking tour will go over all of it.

Regarding the events, Roemerberg Square has been a major gathering space since the 15th century. Therefore, it shouldn’t be hard to get an event approved there since they’ve held festivals, tournaments, markets, and fairs in the same place. Plus, on the brighter side, it’s a great place to people-watch if you’re ever bored.

Skip the Line at the Staedel Museum

Skipping the line at the Staedel Museum is another unforgettable experience you can do in Frankfurt, Germany! The Staedel Museum is a top attraction in Frankfurt, Germany that showcases 700 years of art history. This is done through its collections that include but are not limited to paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, and photographs from the medieval times to the present day.

Many people even visit the museum for its special displays which include temporary exhibitions featuring prints and drawings from the Graphic Art Collection. Making Van Gogh, Monet und die Geburt des Impressionismus, and Botticelli are also some of the most popular exhibitions in the museum.
