Marvel at the Triberger Waterfall
With a steep descent of 165m, the Triberger Waterfall is a great place to visit in the town of Triberg. It’s billed as one of the tallest waterfalls in Germany with water tumbling over seven naturally created steps.
However, do keep in mind this is a paid attraction! You will be charged around 6 euros per adult for the entrance fee but the natural beauty of the waterfall makes it worth the money.
To reach the entrance of the Triberger Waterfall, go by foot from the Main High Street. There is also signage everywhere to keep you from getting lost but when in doubt, just follow the Gutach River.
So, if you’re planning to marvel at the Triberger Waterfall on your trip, you won’t regret it. It’s truly a landmark in the Black Forest region.
Shop at the House of 1,000 Clocks
Situated in the middle of Triberg, the House of 1,000 Clocks is a great place to visit if you’re in the small town! It has the greatest selection of Black Forest cuckoo clocks in the whole area and you can buy Christmas gifts and decorations there too.
The name of the shop obviously comes from the fact that they have more than 1,000 clocks in store to sell. In addition to these clocks, there is also a fair selection of fashionable pocket watches for purchase as well as small souvenir clocks.
Furthermore, when it comes to Christmas gifts and decorations, you can find them on the second floor. They’re available all year round and they include items such as nutcrackers, smokers, cute wooden Christmas pyramids, etc.
So, if you’re planning to shop at the House of 1,000 Clocks, you’ll walk out with a great souvenir. There’s always something new and unusual to discover at the store so it’s definitely a unique shopping experience.
Tour the Black Forest Museum
Having more than 1600 square meters of exhibition space, the Black Forest Museum is another great place to visit if you’re in Triberg! The museum shows many facets of the wonderful Black Forest while also answering questions such as how many pom-poms are on the Gutach Bollenhut, what the traditional wedding “Hochzeitsschäppel” is, and why ladies from Triberg wear top hats.
In addition, the museum has an important collection of the Black Forest Clocks that date back 4 centuries as well as a large diorama of the spectacular Black Forest Rail. So, if you’re planning to take a tour of the Black Forest Museum, I highly recommend it. You can find tours available in many languages such as German, English, Italian, Spanish, and French.
Visit the World’s Largest Cuckoo Clock
Located in the Eble Uhren Park, the world’s largest cuckoo clock is another great place you can visit in Triberg, Germany! The clock has had the title since 1997 and it’s 15 feet tall weighing six tons with a 330-pound cuckoo. It was designed by clockmakers Ewald and Ralf Eble using traditional Black Forest craftsmanship over five years. Once the clock was completed in 1994, it was afterward featured in the Guinness Book of World Records.
So, if you’re planning to visit the world’s largest cuckoo clock in Triberg, I highly recommend it. It’s the size of an entire two-story building and the clock chimes twice an hour.
Indulge in Black Forest Cake
Based on a Black Forest dessert tradition, indulging in Black Forest Cake is another thing you should do while you’re in Triberg, Germany. The cake is a chocolate cream cake with a cherry filling and it’s all composed of black cherries, chocolate sponge, and whipped cream.
Therefore, if you’re on a diet, I highly recommend a small portion size. One taste of the cake will leave you wanting more, so it’s best to take caution.
In addition, from what I’ve heard, the best place to try it is at the Eis Cafe Venezia. The Google reviews say it’s nothing but delicious and the ice cream is a plus too!
So, don’t hesitate to stop by the cafe, the Black Forest Cake is also really cheap, leaving you with no dent in your wallet.
